WESSON — Moving from high school super star to junior collegesuper sub, Alisha Mason has made the adjustment and she enjoys herrole with the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Lady Wolves. Mondaynight, Mason pumped in 15 points, helping lead Co-Lin to an 86-55win over Hinds Community College and the South Divisionchampionship.

Winning the South earned Co-Lin (22-2, 12-1) the right to hostthe MACJC State Tournament, Feb. 26-March 1. The Lady Wolves,ranked No. 10 in the NJCAA national poll, will play Monday night,meeting the North Division’s fourth place team.

“I love playing for Co-Lin,” said Mason, a 5-foot-9 freshmanfrom Enterprise. She was named The DAILY LEADER’s Miss Basketballand MVP on the 2006 All-Lincoln County Team.

“It’s less pressure when I came off the bench, instead ofstarting,” said Mason. “It feels great to win the South and get tohost the state tournament. We have a good chance to win state if wekeep playing together.”

Mason’s trey was among 6 made by the Co-Lin last night. GuardHanna Porter made 3 and finished with 11 points. Alicia Kennedysank 2.

“Alisha shot the ball well tonight,” said Co-Lin women’s coachGwyn Young, looking at the shooting chart. Mason made 4 of 5 fieldgoal attempts from 2-point range and was 1-for-1 beyond the arc,including a buzzer-beating shot from the corner, giving the LadyWolves a 38-22 halftime lead. She made 4 of 5 free throws, plusblocking 4 shots, grabbing 3 rebounds and making 2 steals.

“Erica Trahan had a double-double tonight,” Young noted. The5-10 sophomore post player worked inside for 18 points and 14rebounds.

Co-Lin started the second half with a 13-0 run as Whitney Scottscored all 5 of her points and Trahan netted 3 field goals. TheLady Wolves led 51-22 and Young began substituting early as all 13of players put points on the scoreboard.

On the floor, Scott had 5 assists and Nikki Williams made 4steals.

Hinds (4-19, 0-13), coached by Carl Palmer III, was overpoweredon the backboards. The Lady Bulldogs got 16 points from CandanceJohnson, a 5-5 freshman from Jackson; 14 points from ChiquitaHarrison, a 5-9 freshman from Terry; and 13 from Kayla Palmer, a5-5 freshman from Jackson.

Co-Lin hosts Jones County Thursday night for its last home game.Jones is the only South team to beat the Lady Wolves thisseason.
