Services for Ruth N. Burkett, of Monticello, were 10 a.m.Thursday, Aug. 30, at Monticello Baptist Church with burial inMonticello Municipal Cemetery. Wilson Funeral Home in Monticello isin charge of arrangements.

Mrs. Burkett, 90, died Aug. 29, 2007, at Lawrence CountyHospital. She was born on July 12, 1917, to Murphy Monroe Neal andSettie King Neal.

She was retired from her work as a dietitian after 28 years ofservice with Monticello Elementary School. She was a faithfulmember of Monticello Baptist Church, where she was a former Sundayschool teacher. She was a very good cook, and loved people. Shetook great enjoyment in doing for others.

Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, LeothaBurkett; her son, Robert L. Burkett; and her six brothers and foursisters.

Survivors are her daughters, Betty B. Catt and husband Charles,of Monticello, Sara B. Laird and husband Fred, of D’Lo, and SheliaB. Bourn and husband Davis, of Monticello; her grandchildren,Phillip Catt and Rachel Davis, both of Monticello, Lisa Dunaway, ofMadison, and Michael Laird, of Jackson; her great-grandchildren,Joseph Summers, Zachary Summers, Payton Davis and Alexis Lea, allof Monticello, and Jacob Dunaway, of Madison.
