West Lincoln turns back Yellow Jackets

West Lincoln pushed home the winning run in the bottom of thefifth inning and edged the visiting Enterprise Yellow Jackets 7-6Monday in Division 7-1A baseball action. The Bears got 2 innings ofshutout relief from James Magee and Brett Rushing to save the winfor starter Tyler Case.

Case struck out 8 batters and walked 3 as the Bears improvedtheir record to 2-4 overall and 2-1 in the division. Enterprise(2-6, 2-2) got a complete game from pitcher Peyton Greene whofanned 4 and walked 8, allowing 4 hits.

West Lincoln hosts Vicksburg St. Aloysius Friday for divisionaction.

“Tyler Case threw a good ballgame,” said West Lincoln first-yearcoach Steve Barrington. “I’m proud of the team effort.”

The Bears capitalized on 4 Enterprise errors. They were poweredby catcher Zach Williams who hit a solo homer in the fourth. Casesingled twice.

The Yellow Jackets got a 3-run homer from Trent Herrington. The5th-inning clout tied the game at 6-6 in the fifth.

Enterprise got doubles from Greene, Ky Mathas, Ky Burke andTravis Leggett.,

“We shot ourselves in the foot early,” said Enterprise coachSeth Lofton after watching his team fall behind 5-1 in the secondinning. “We couldn’t get out of the hole.”

Junior varsity results

In the JV game, Enterprise beat West Lincoln 10-6, led by TaylorHerrington’s 2 triples. Cody White homered. Johnathan Burns andMicah Bivens doubled.

Trent Herrington pitched the win. He struck out 6 and walked3.

West Lincoln’s Josh Reno (4 Ks, 6 BBs) absorbed the loss. TheBears got singles from Jeremy Buckley, Chris Lilly and MattMagee.
