Lady Wolves rip Meridian

MERIDIAN – The Co-Lin men had Meridian down by 21 points in thesecond half but let the hosts come back to tie the game at 81-allin regulation. in overtime, Meridian hit a three-pointer with fourseconds left to take a 91-90 win Thursday night.

In the women’s game, Co-Lin (10-0) marched to a 100-63 victoryover Meridian.

The Co-Lin men led Meridian by 12 points, 46-34, at halftime. Upby 21 points with 12 minutes to go in regulation, the Wolves wereunable to take care of the basketball.

“Poor shot selection and turnovers led to our self-destruction,”said Co-Lin men’s head coach Dennis Sims.

High scorer of the game was Meridian’s Jamall Edmonson with 42points.

For the 4-6 Wolves, sophomore guard Jerimie Collier led the waywith 37 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists. Jason Scott pumped in 22points, grabbed 5 rebounds and had 8 assists. Also collected 5rebounds apiece were Carl Minor and Nick Mikell.

In the women’s game, the undefeated Lady Wolvescommanded a 50-35 lead over Meridian at the half.

“In the first half, our bench did a great job on defense andscored 23 points,” said Co-Lin women’s head coach Gwyn Young. “Wewere able to attack their full court press and score some easybaskets. Our rebounding and getting the ball out of the fastbreakwas very good.

“We did have some breakdowns on defense, but overall it waspretty good.” added Young. “Everyone basically played well and agood win on the road to start conference play.”

Directing the Lady Wolves with 23 points, 4 rebounds and 3assists was sophomore guard Tiania Burns. Nikki Blakely netted 16points. Following with 15 points and 9 rebounds was Shaquita Smith.Loretta Martin finished with 10 points, 3 assists and 4 steals.Ayme Beeson had 10 assists.

Meridian was led by Monique Horner’s 18 points, 4 rebounds, 5assists and 2 steals.

Co-Lin visits Perkinston Monday night to face division foe GulfCoast. The women begin play at 6 p.m.
