RAYMOND – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars traveled to Raymond to take on the Central Hinds Cougars in a critical District 5AA contest Tuesday evening.

After falling behind early, the BA Cougars fought their way back into the game in the second inning en-route to a 6 – 4 victory behind a clutch pitching performance from junior Zach Dickerson.

“We were in a must win situation and it was great to watch our guys respond,” said BA head coach Casey Edwards. “Zach (Dickerson) pitched a heck of a game tonight. Jacob Boyd got a big hit, after they (CH) hit the first inning bomb, to get us right back into it and that set the tone for the entire game.” Edwards concluded, “We’ve got to get back to work tomorrow and be ready for these guys again later this week at our place.”

Jacob Boyd had a two RBI double in the second inning that tied the game for the Cougars. Bailey Warren added two hits in his night of work and Dickerson added support with one hit to his credit. Peyton Banes led CH with a first inning 2-run homerun.

Dickerson pitched the victory for BA sticking out 8, allowing 3 hits and issuing just one base on balls in his seven inning outing. Banes absorbed the loss for Central Hinds.

BA returns home to host Central Hinds Thursday evening at Harold Williams Ballpark. Junior Varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

The game was originally schedule to be played Friday, but both coaches have decided to play it early due to the anticipation of heavy rain on Friday.
