Franklin High added another State Championship to its resume, but this time in the sport of fishing.

Connor Quin and Bryce White took top honors at the Mississippi State High School Fishing State Championship at the Ross Barnett Reservoir.

Quin and White brought a five-bass limit to the scale weighing 14-pounds, 5 ounces to win the overall event, among 19 teams entered among 1A-6A classes.

Both Quin and White will advance to the TBF/FLW Regional Tournament in Shreveport, Louisiana in October.

Meadville native and FC alum Jody Herring served as Boat Captain for Quin and White. Herring, a local fishing pro, shared his angler knowledge with the pair.

“I’m proud of them for executing and for the win,” said Herring. “We overcame a couple of obstacles, like being caught in a thunderstorm coming across the lake. Still, the boys did good and I’m proud of how they represented Franklin High at this event.”
