BA athletes earn honors

WESSON – The Brookhaven Academy faculty and coaches honored their varsity athletes with a spring banquet to commemorate football, girls’ basketball, boys’ basketball, softball, baseball, cheerleading, golf, track, archery, tennis, girls’ soccer and boys’ soccer.

Dr. Ed Moak served as the banquet’s emcee and welcomed the large crowd to the special event that was held at the Thames Center located on the Copiah-Lincoln Community College campus Tuesday night .

After the meal, coaches from each sport started to recognize their team’s achievements during the year and players were given awards to signify their hard work.

Seniors Grant Melancon and Lindsey Winborne were presented with the Cougar Leadership Award. Melancon received the Most Valuable Player Award in tennis and boys’ soccer. Winborne was also recognized with the hustle award in girls’ basketball.

Landon Nettles, Travis Thornton and Caleb Brown received Most Valuable honors in football. Nettles also received the Head Hunter award.

In boys’ basketball, Zac Smith was recognized as the Most Valuable Player. Madison Warren received the Most Outstanding player award in girls’ basketball and earned the Most Valuable girl award in tennis.

In softball, Allison Livingston was recognized as the Most Valuable player. Landon Nettles capture two huge awards in baseball as he was rewarded with the Team’s Most Valuable Player and the Most Valuable Offensive award.

Other prestige honors went to Ashlea Bardwell in archery, Ruth Vaughan in girls’ soccer and Jordan Lea in boys’ soccer.

Dr. Moak closed the ceremony, thanking the athletes, coaches and families for the wonderful year they had at Brookhaven Academy.
