A rut remains in the road from construction on the sewer system on Becker Street Saturday.

Holes have been left in the roads around Brookhaven after recent construction on the sewer system. Parts of the roads were dug up to uncover manholes and fix pipe leaks and have resulted in dirt divots on roads.

Keith Lewis said the areas that were opened have to be given about a month to let the dirt get packed down well by rain and wear before covering it back with asphalt. He said that if you don’t there would be sinkage and they would have to redo it later.

The city has been working on testing and renovating the sewer system. They smoke tested around Brookhaven to see if there were any leaks in the pipes. City Engineer Mike McKenzie said they are looking for manholes that have been covered up over the years by layers of asphalt so they continue testing and repairing.
