DAILY LEADER / JUSTIN VICORY / A controlled burn at South Second and Minnesota Streets was the source of smoke billowing over town Wednesday.

Residents of Brookhaven may have noticed the unmistakable smell of fire, and perhaps seen white smoke billowing over treetops in town at approximately 12 p.m. Wednesday.

The culprit was a pile of burning rubble approximately 10 feet in diameter that could be found just south of the intersection of South Second and Minnesota Streets in a small lot next to a residence.

An official with the Brookhaven Fire Department described the fire as a “controlled burn” and “nothing to worry about.”
