The Enterprise Lady Jackets (4-7), with the help of some clutch baskets in the second half, were able to protect their home floor in the second night of the Lincoln County Tournament as they defeated the Loyd Star Lady Hornets 37-33.

Senior guard Kristin Jergins led the Lady Jackets in scoring with a game-high 15 points. Enterprise trailed at halftime 23-18 before rallying in the second half. Timely free throws at the end of the game propelled the Lady Jackets to victory.

Adrienne Byrd , Megan Rippy and Jergins were the leaders on the boards for the Lady Jackets with four rebounds apiece. Hannah Kirtfield helped with three steals and two rebounds.

“We played really well together,” said Enterprise coach Jill Nations. “Our defense was a lot better tonight. It was great to get the win.”

Jordan Shelby’s double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds lead the Lady Hornets (7-3). Hannah Dickerson chipped in 11 points. Marcy Givens added assistances on the defensive side with four rebounds and five assists.

“We had our chances to win, but missed a lot of easy shots and clutch free throws,” said Loyd Star coach Gene ‘Moochie’ Britt. “We need to play smarter and quit getting into early foul trouble. Overall, I was pleased with subs effort, they played hard.”

Edrick Alsworth’s 20 points powered the Hornets (7-2) over their division rival Enterprise Friday night at the Lincoln County Tournament.

Enterprise (7-4), couldn’t capitalize on several scoring opportunities early as Loyd Star built a 31-19 advantage going into the halftime break.

The Yellow Jackets were led in scoring with three players in double figures. Dwayne Pendleton fired in 14 points, Forrest Scott drained 13 points and John Gray added 11 points to pace the Jackets.

“The kids played hard,” said Enterprise coach John Knight. “We had several chances to gain the win, but we made key mistakes at the wrong times. Overall, we still need to get better.”

Brad Jasper was the second leading scorer for Loyd Star with 15 points. Levi Redd also had a double-double performance for the Hornets with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

“We struggle to get out offensive going in the first half, said Britt. “We managed to get a big lead several times but just could not hold onto it, due to many careless mistakes. It is hard to beat a team if we cannot play better. Overall, I was glad to get the win.”
