Wolves, Lady Wolves sweep East Central

DECATUR – The Co-Lin Lady Wolves had five players in double figures on their way to their first South Division win of the year, a 82-73 win over the East Central Lady Warriors. Lady Wolves improve to 8-6, 1-4 in the South Division. The Lady Warriors fall to 7-6, 2-3 in the division.

In the men’s contest, the Wolves won their fourth straight game taking a 73-65 win over the host Warriors. Co-Lin improves to 7-7, 3-2 in the South Division. East Central falls to 6-8, 2-3 in the division.

Freshman Tyra Gibson blocked a shot, made a steal and a layup with 2:34 left to tie the game at 71-all. Claresa Banks hit a huge trey to give the Lady Wolves a 76-72 lead with 1:12 remaining. The Lady Wolves went 4-for-5 in the final minute to put the game away and get the win.

Sophomore Tyrisha Patterson posted her first double-double of the season with 12 points and 10 rebounds. Freshman Tyra Gibson and sophomore KeKe Collins led the way with 15 points apiece. Ashley Minor pumped in 13 points followed by Keyana Miller with 10. Collins and Miller dished out 4 assists.

“I thought Tyrisha played her best game of the season,” said Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young. “We’ve needed our post players to step up,” said Young.

The lead changed hands 22 times and was tied 15 times.

Jaleshia Jones led East Central with a game-high 27 points. Tynika Bender chipped in 13 points. Jones led off the boards with 10 rebounds.

The Wolves took a 5-3 lead and never looked back.

Sophomore guard Anthony Davis scored 15 points, dished out 7 assists and made 4 steals to lead the Wolfpack. Chris Steverson added 14 points and 4 rebounds. Terry Morris chipped in 10 points. Jordan Lumpkins led the Wolfpack on the boards with 5 rebounds.

For the Warriors, three players scored in double figures led by Jacques Johnson with a game-high 18 points and 7 rebounds. Quinton Campbell pumped in 13 points and 5 rebounds. Terrance Mujahid added 12 points. Kristian Clark pulled down 5 rebounds.
