THE DAILY LEADER / RHONDA DUNAWAY / Mississippi chef, author and food columnist Robert St. John (left) speaks to the audience at Thursday night’s PaLate event as Mississippi watercolorist Wyatt Waters (right) paints a still life set up for the occasion.

The event, held at the Lincoln Civic Center, was a fundraiser for the King's Daughter's Medical Center Foundation. The handiwork of Waters and St. John was simultaneously filmed and put on big screens in the main room of the center. Guests got a chance to hear great southern storytelling from St. John while he simultaneously showed his guests enticing recipes. St. John and Waters have collaborated on two books that feature recipes and watercolor paintings, "The Italian Palate," and "The Southern PaLate." "The Italian PaLate" is their latest work and documents their recent travels through Italy.
