DAILY LEADER / JUSTIN VICORY / Nancy Hanks-Myers offers suggestions on how to help promote involvement in the Friends of the Library during the group’s meeting Thursday.

With a new eBook service recently announced at the Lincoln County Public Library, the Friends of the Library group met Thursday night to brainstorm further ways to increase interest in one of the educational bedrocks of the community.

The group is interested in pursuing ways to increase library participation from the community and made this mission its central focus of discussion at Thursday’s meeting held in the Vernon Room of the library.

Group president Pam Womack addressed fellow members of the organization with a compelling question: “How do we got more people involved?”

Group members exchanged several ideas in response. Members proposed a series of upcoming events at the library, such as a matinee night and guest author night. Other members suggested the group entice local school librarians, teachers and administrators, and homeschoolers to the library.

The group also wished to make a public plea for book donations from the community.

“We encourage the community to donate books, recent books in particular, to the library,” Womack said.

Later in the meeting, members compared thoughts about what to do for National Library Week in April.

The theme of this year’s library week will be “Lives change at your library.” The “Friends” group will be looking for community members of all ages to volunteer their individual stories about how the library changed their lives.

“It could be something as simple as coming across an inspirational book, or something of that sort,” noted group member Nancy Hanks-Myers.
