Brookhaven Academy concludes the season

WINONA – The Brookhaven Academy Cougars and Lady Cougars saw their season come to an abrupt end Saturday as both teams finished fourth in the MAIS State AA tournament at Winona Christian School.

In the girls’ consolation game, the Kirk Academy Lady Raiders knocked off the Lady Cougars 60-31.

In the boys’ consolation matchup, the ACCS Rebels hammered the Cougars 54-37.

Kirk 60, BA 31 

The Kirk Academy Lady Raiders used a strong second to pull away from the BA Lady Cougars and earn the 60-31 victory Saturday afternoon in Winona.

The loss wraps up the season for the Lady Cougars with a very respectable 20-16 record.

“I am so proud of these young ladies and what they have accomplished this year.” commented BA head coach Mack Gardner. “They have done everything we’ve asked of them this season.”

“Finally, I want to mention our four seniors and thank them for their leadership all year,” continued Gardner. “They are a special group of young ladies.”

Mary Claire White led the Lady Cougars with 13 points. Madison Warren chipped in seven for BA.

Carley Hudspeth paced the Lady Raiders with 23 points.

Senior guard Madison Warren was named the AA All-Tournament Team.

ACCS 54, BA 37 

The Rebels relied on a strong second and third quarter performance to eliminate the Brookhaven Academy Cougars from postseason action.

Senior Zac Smith was the offensive leader for Ba with 14 points. Peyton Hood powered the boards for the Cougars with 10 rebounds and scored 8 points

Trey Fleming directed the Rebels offense with 12 points. Lester Wells netted 10 points.
