WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras secured a sweep in their Saturday’s softball tournament. The Lady Cobras defeated the McComb Lady Tigers in the opener 13-1 and edged the Pearl Lady Pirates 5-4.

In last Friday night action, Wesson struggled to overcome the Spring Break rust as the Florence Lady Eagles blanked the Lady Cobras 4-0.

The Lady Cobras (4-1-1) resume action Tuesday as they host the Salem Lady Wildcats. The junior varsity game starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6.

Wesson 13, McComb 1 

Carrie McSweyn was the winning pitcher for the Lady Cobras with two strikeouts and one walk.

Paige Brook suffered the setback for the Lady Tigers with one strikeout and five walks.

Sabria Green powered the Lady Cobras at the plate with a home run. Brook Jones contributed a double and a single. Bailey Middleton ripped two singles. Hitting safely were Kayla Britt, Sarah Robinson, Abby Meredith and McSweyn.

Abigail Jones and Katie Kalusche were the top hitters for the Lady Tigers with a pair of singles each. Christen Jenkins and Shatonia Coney hit safely.

Wesson 5, Pearl 4 

The Lady Cobras and the Lady Pirates fought hard in a seesaw contest before Wesson managed to push across the winning run in the bottom of the fifth inning.

McSweyn collected her second win of the day for the Lady Cobras with three strikeouts and two walks.

Hannah Grace Emmons took the loss on the mound for Pearl.

McSweyn paced Wesson’s offense with three singles. Green ripped a double and a single. Amber Brinson and Meredith had a double each, Jones hit a single.

Lauren Pope directed the Lady Pirates at the plate with three singles. Cailee Arender provided two singles. Tiara Jenkins and Holly Cobb hit a single apiece.

Florence 4, Wesson 0 

The Lady Cobras returned to the softball diamond Friday night after enjoying spring break. Wesson had a tough time trying to overcome their rough start as they committed six errors in the contest.

Tatum Walker tossed the win for the Lady Eagles with five strikeouts and two walks.

McSweyn suffered the setback for the Lady Cobras with no strikeouts and three walks.

Britt, Middleton, Robinson and Meredith were the offensive leaders at the plate for Wesson with a single apiece.

Amber Cain paced the Lady Eagles with a double. Gabby Smith and Hope Harrington had a single each.
