The Loyd Star Hornets bounced back after a tough loss Thursday night to crush the Bassfield Yellowjackets 15-0 in Region 7-2A baseball action Friday night at Smith-Smith Field.

“”Caleb Yarborough pitched a great game,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “The guys did a good job hitting the ball to give our pitcher some run support. Overall, we still need to continue work hard for our district hunt.”

The Hornets (6-4, 2-0) will continue their district race Tuesday as they host the East Marion Eagles. Junior varsity action starts at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m.

Loyd Star 15, Bassfield 0 

Caleb Yarborough provided a dominating performance on the mound for the Hornets, collecting six strikeouts and allowing no walks in a three hit, three inning shutout contest.

Peyton Flowers powered Loyd Star’s offense with a three-run home run and a single. Seth Farmer continued the offensive onslaught with three singles. Yarborough had a double. Hitting safely were Brett Calcote, Lane Rogers and Konner Allen.

Travious Reese took the loss for the Yellowjackets with no strikeouts and four walks.

Timothy Arnold, Curtis Mikell and Ron Thompson were the top hitters for Bassfield with a single apiece.

In junior varsity action,  The Hornets defeated Bassfield 12-4.
