BC Lady Cats sweep Salem to advance

BOGUE CHITTO – The Bogue Chitto Lady Cats were victorious Wednesday night after eliminating the Salem Lady Wildcats 5-1 in Game Two softball action in the second round of the Class 1A state playoffs. BC sweep the series 2-0 against Salem to advance.

“This was a very good series,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “Both teams battled hard. My girls did a great job playing small ball in both games to collect the victories.”

The Lady Cats (23-6) will advance to the third round of the Class 1A softball playoffs and will face the winner of the Nanih Waiya/Pelahatchie series. Bogue Chitto will be traveling Friday and host Saturday. Game times have not been set.

Bogue Chitto 5, Salem 1 

The Lady Cats of Lincoln County came out strong and quickly secured an early 4-0 lead in two innings of action, before Salem could answered in the top of the third inning scoring their only run in the game.

Bogue Chitto would add their final run of the contest in the bottom of the sixth inning and relied on their strong defense to claim the win.

Christian Black dominated the pitcher circle for BC with nine strikeouts and four walks.

Rachel Bond suffered the loss for Salem with one strikeout and two walks.

Senior center fielder Mattie Avants and junior right fielder Daley Roberts were the top sluggers for the Lady Cats with three singles apiece. Alana Nettles and Mallory Allen ripped a pair of singles each. Hitting safely were Terrah Nelson, Christian Black and Zariah Matthews.

Bond was the offensive leader for the Lady Wildcats with a double and a single. Brittney Bergeron had a single.
