Wolves rally to take third in Region 23 Tournament

WESSON – The Co-Lin Wolfpack rallied from fifth place to capture third in the NJCAA Region 23 Golf Tournament held at Wolf Hollow Golf Course. The host Wolfpack fired 305 to finish the two-day tournament at 626.

Mississippi Gulf Coast took their seventh Region 23 title firing 611 (311-300). They qualify for the NJCAA National Golf Tournament, which will be held May 20-23, at Swan Lake Golf Club in Plymouth, Indiana.

Coming in second place was East Mississippi 624 (315-309). Finishing in fourth was Northwest Mississippi at 627 (313-314), followed by Jones County at 632 (312-320).

Individually, Danny DeLos Santos of Gulf Coast captured medalist honors with a two-day total of 149 (77-72). Teammate Jake Pritchard finished second at 151 (77-74). First day leader Jake Cole of Hinds finished third at 153 (73-80).

The most exciting part of the final day was a seven-player playoff for two slots on the All-Region and a five-player playoff for a National Tournament Qualifier slot. Hayes Weathersby of Gulf Coast was first to place on the All-Region after making birdie on the second playoff hole. Patrick Dickson of Jones County captured the last National Qualifier spot and a place on the All-Region Team on the eighth playoff hole, pouring in a 50-foot eagle putt on hole No. 1 to beat East Mississippi’s Chase Chitwood. Chitwood is the first alternate, and East Mississippi’s Steven Eilders is second alternate.

Already qualifying for the National Tournament as individual players were Ryan Desormeaux of Co-Lin, Jordan Cole of Hinds, Hunter Harmon of East Mississippi and Sawyer Williams of East Central.

Individual scores for the Wolfpack includes sophomore Connor Barnes at 156 (79-77), followed by Austin Schillaci (80-77) and Ryan Desormeaux at 157 (80-77), Taylor Jelks at 158 (84-74), and Will Lee at 161 (82-79).
