DAILY LEADER / KATIE WILLIAMSON / David Moore with Wayne Smith Tree Service sits atop part of an enormous tree removed by the company Wednesday from the right-of-way on South Jackson Street Wednesday. The tree service was contracted by the city of Brookhaven to remove the tree, which had begun rotting and become a hazard for passersby. The tree was six feet and three inches wide at the base, and its removal required the street to be blocked during part of the process. The wood was taken to the city dump.
