Lincoln AL knocks off Copiah; Natchez defeats Lincoln NL

GALLMAN – The Lincoln County 9 and 10-year old Americans continue to roll as they eliminated the Copiah County All-Stars 17-7 Monday night in the Dixie Youth AAA District Six tournament.

In the nightcap, the Lincoln County Nationals suffered a disappointing defeat after returning to the diamond at Copiah Academy softball field after having the weekend off. The Nationals fell to the Natchez All-Stars 15-5 in a late night thriller.

The Nationals and Americans of Lincoln County will be in action today as they fight to advance to the championship game in an elimination contest. Game time is set to start at 7 p.m.

Natchez will have the night off to prepare for the winner in Thursday’s championship contest, which starts at 6 p.m.

In last Saturday results, the Lincoln Americans fought off elimination by securing a 20-6 victory over the Franklin County All-Stars.

Lincoln AL 17, Copiah 7 

The Lincoln Americans managed to overcome an offensive slugfest with the Copiah All-Stars after two innings of action to explode with a 11-0 run to secure the victory in four innings of work.

Jake Meilstrup was the winning pitcher in relief for the Americans with two strikeouts and four walks. Jacob Rushing (2K, 4BB) was the starting pitcher for Lincoln County.

John Mackey Jenkins suffered the loss for the Copiah All-Stars with three strikeouts and three walks. Gunner Palmer (0K, 4BB) also saw some action in relief for Copiah.

Riley Easterling and Will Mayfield were the offensive leaders at the plate for the Americans with a triple and a single apiece. Jackson Carter and Chase White contributed a pair of singles each. Piker Wallace ripped a double. Hitting safely were Jake Meilstrup, Lawson Chemin, Eli Smith, Jacob Rushing and Grayson Childress.

Ethan Britt powered the Copiah’s offense with a triple and a double. Chris Ellis provided a double and a single. Jacob Hust had two singles. Jenkins belted a double. Jackson Smith and Palmer hit safely.

Natchez 15, Lincoln NL 5 

The Natchez All-Star relied on their defensive strength to keep the Lincoln Nationals off balance through out the whole contest.

Natchez came out and took control of the contest as they grabbed a 9-0 lead in four innings of action.

The Lincoln Nationals managed to get their offense going in the bottom of the fourth as they cut into the lead by pushing across three runs but still trailed Natchez 9-3.

The Natchez All-Stars would add to their lead in the fifth and sixth innings to claim a 15-3 lead. In the bottom of the sixth inning, the Nationals refused to down without a fight as they tried to charge back from Natchez’s large lead but could only push across two runs in their attempt.

Ronnie McMillian pitched the victory for Natchez with four strikeouts and no walks.

Dawson Hester suffered the setback for the Nationals with four strikeouts and two walks. Colby Merritt (1K, 3BB) and Brady Ratcliff (4K, 1BB) also saw some action on the mound in relief for the Nationals.

Jacob Clark, Hester and Ratcliff were the top sluggers for the Nationals at the plate with a double apiece. Hitting safely were Felder Sartin, Conner Hall and Merritt.

Zeke Flattmann sparked the Natchez’s offense with three singles. Collin Caunten and Paxton Jenkins contributed a double and a single each. Zahlin Cornett, Joseph Garrity and McMillian provided a pair of singles. Braden Goldmon ripped a triple. Ethan Weadock hit a double and Landon Lees had a single.
