SUMMIT – Southwest Director of Athletics Dr. Bill Ashley has announced the resignation of head baseball coach Lee Kuyrkendall, effective September 30. Kuyrkendall will remain with the school until then to help aid in the transition to the new staff.

A former Southwest baseball and basketball player with over 20 years of coaching experience, Kuyrkendall became the Bears’ head coach in 2008.

Kuyrkendall said he “appreciated the opportunity he was given to serve” Southwest and that the “decision to leave was a difficult one. However, my family’s chance to move to the Dallas, Texas, area to be near close relatives was too good to pass up.”

“We are proud of the accomplishments of our program,” Kuyrkendall continued, “and the many players who have passed through during this time. I wish everyone here well and that our baseball program will continue to reach even greater heights.”
