SCOOBA – What had been hyped as a NJCAA showdown in Scooba turned into a nightmare for the No. 3 Copiah-Lincoln Wolfpack as the No. 1 East Mississippi Lions took a 46-10 win on Thursday night.

With 3:49 remaining in the first quarter the Wolfpack scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Daniel Fitzwater to Donald Gray. The score was 14-7 and it appeared that Co-Lin had made it a ballgame after falling in a 14-0 hole.

That would be as good as it would get for Co-Lin as East Mississippi would close the game by outscoring the Wolves 32-3 over the final three quarters.

Special teams miscues were the order of the day for the Wolfpack. Co-Lin had a fumbled punt return that led to a Lion touchdown, a short punt that led to another Lion touchdown, gave up multiple big returns on kickoffs, and a high snap on a punt that resulted in a safety for the Lions.

Fitzwater was pressured throughout the night by a powerful East Mississippi pass rush. The sophomore threw for 268 yards on 20-for-36 passing.

East Mississippi put the game away in the second quarter with two big scoring plays. The first, a 47-yard touchdown run from Preston Baker and the second a 36-yard touchdown catch from Chad Kelly to Kameron Myers.

Wide receiver Germie Martin was one of the lone bright spots on offense for the Wolfpack. The sophomore from Bogue Chitto caught 7 passes for 117 yards.

Freshman kicker Greg Nickels made a 28-yard field goal for Co-Lin.

The Wolves return to action on Thursday, September 11 when they host the Mississippi Delta Trojans for a 7 p.m. kickoff in Wesson. Watch live at www.colinathletics.com or listen on WMJU 104.3 FM.
