WESSON – The season to remember continues for Co-Lin’s Donald Gray as he has now been named the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Special Teams Player of the Week for his performance in a 43-0 victory over East Central.
Gray was nominated after previously being selected as the special teams player of the week on the state level. He had previously been named NJCAA Offensive Player of the Week after Co-Lin’s opening week win over Itawamba. So far this season Gray is the only player representing Mississippi to be chosen for national player of the week honors.
Gray, a native of Memphis and graduate of White Station High, returned four punts for 200 total yards and had two returns for touchdowns against East Central. In the first quarter Gray fielded a low punt off the bounce and returned it 48-yards for the score. In the second quarter Gray topped that with a 52-yard TD return that saw him weave in and out of the would-be Warrior tacklers.
Gray, a wide receiver and Mississippi State commit, has scored nine touchdowns through five games for the Wolfpack. He has caught 19 passes this season for 485 yards and seven touchdowns. His longest catch of the year went for 73 yards, and his 25.5 yards per catch average is second highest in the NJCAA. On special teams he is averaging 34.3 yards per punt return.
