CRYSTAL SPRINGS- The Wesson Cobras traveled north on Highway 51 to face the Crystal Springs Tigers Friday night for an action packed contest. The Cobras captured their first district win with a 45-31 victory in 7-3A action.

“I was extremely proud of our guy’s effort,” said Cobra coach Ronald Greer. “We fought hard and made enough plays to win the ballgame. Our coaches did a great job of preparing our kids and putting them in a position to be successful. I thought our kicking game was strong as well.”

The Tigers started off the game by scoring on their first possession with Dionysius Hines by rushing into the endzone to put the first points on the scoreboard. The extra point attempt by Brandon Frayde was good, which put the score at 7-0 Tigers at the end of the first quarter.

Wesson’s Farrod Green started off the second quarter with a completed pass from quarterback Tyler Christmas to slip passed the Tigers defense for a touchdown. Tre Fleming kicked the extra point to even the score.

Crystal Springs answered with Jeriko Morris running into the end zone. The Cobras came back strong on the next possession with Farrod Green sprinting 67 yards for his second touchdown of the night.

The Tigers were successful in their field goal attempt to take a 17-14 lead, but Wesson added another touchdown to the scoreboard when Michael Hauer rushed 60 yards to pay dirt.

On Crystal Springs’ next offensive drive, Wesson’s Tyler McLeod intercepted a pass on the Tigers 25-yard line, which put the Cobras within field goal range for Tre Fleming. Wesson led going into halftime 24-17.

After halftime, Wesson came out strong and added another touchdown by Michael Hauer. The Tigers answered with Jeriko Morris 65-yard rushing touchdown.

Wesson continued their momentum with Dartavious Dixon scoring a touchdown from a 79-yard catch and Farrod Green completing the two-point conversion. Kendrick Brown also put points on the board for the Cobras after Bobby Pritchard recovered a fumble in the red zone.

Crystal Springs fought back with a last effort touchdown by Anthony Walker. The Tigers’ next attempt at scoring was demolished when the Cobras recovered a fumble ending the game with a final score of 45-31.

Wesson finished the contest with 37 rushes for 197 yards. Tyler Christmas completed four of 13 passes for 164 yards and three touchdowns. The Cobras were lead by Michael Hauer with eight rushes for 84 yards. Jermaine James had five carries for 44 yards. Farrod Green was the top receiver with two catches for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Dartavious Dixon had a 79-yard touchdown catch.

Defensively, Kendrick Brown, Enrique Smith and Jamarcus Patterson lead the charge with eight tackles each. Timothy Craft had seven tackles. Tyler McLeod and Farrod Green each had an interception and Bobby Pritchard had a fumble recovery.

The Cobras (3-5, 1-1) will host Jefferson County next Friday night in Wesson, starting at 7 p.m.
