MRA Patriots defeat BA Cougars

The Brookhaven Academy Cougars were defeated by the Madison-Ridgeland Patriots 57-24 in boys basketball action Saturday in John R. Gray Gymnasium.

In the girls game, the Lady Cougars fell to the Lady Patriots 77-10.

Brookhaven Academy will be in action Monday as they prepare to take part in the Parklane Academy’s two-day Thanksgiving Tournament in McComb. BA will face Parklane Monday as the girls game begins at 6 p.m., followed by the boys contest.

The Cougars and Lady Cougars will battle Oak Forest Academy Tuesday at Parklane with the girls starting at 1 p.m., and the boys will follow.

MRA 57, Brookhaven Acad. 24 

The Patriots came out and quickly set the tone of the game in the first quarter as they exploded with a 22-6 run to end the first frame of action.

In the second quarter, MRA continued to hammer the Cougars with another 26-8 blast to take a 48-14 lead into halftime.

In the second half, both teams fought in a defensive battle as neither team could get their offense going in the low scoring third and fourth quarter as BA won 10-9.

Drake Flowers was the top scorer for the Cougars with eight points. Peyton Hood chipped in with seven points and led on the boards with five rebounds. Caleb Brown scored four points, Trent Nettles had three points and Ross Felder added two points.

Devi Gilmore pumped in a game-high 16 points to lead the Patriots. Harper Hudnall contributed 10 points.
