Wesson divides with BC

WESSON- Bogue Chitto traveled north to Wesson High School for some basketball action Tuesday night at the Snake Pit.

The Cobras overwhelm the Bobcats to gain a 65-39 victory in boys action.

In the girls game, the Lady Cobras also battled the Lady Bobcats in a close hard fought contest, but were not able to pull the win falling to BC 41-39.

The Cobras play again at home Friday nigh and host the Salem High School Wildcats. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m.. Varsity teams begin play at 6 p.m. for the girls and 7:30 for the boys.

The Bogue Chitto Bobcats host Enterprise this Thursday to play the Yellowjackets in the Lincoln County Tournament. The girl’s game begins at 6 p.m. and the boy’s game at 8:30.

Bogue Chitto 41, Wesson 39 

The Lady Cobras fell to the Bogue Chitto Lady Bobcats 41-39 in a close game last night. Wesson Junior Jashia Smith led the Lady Cobras’ offense with a total of 12 points. Senior Kayla Britt scored 11 points, which included one 3-point shot. The Lady Cobras were 7/19 in free throw action.

Bogue Chitto junior Zaria Matthews topped the Lady Bobcats list with a point total of 11 points, which included one 3-point shots. Other top Lady Bobcat players were Karlie Williams and Christian Black who scored 8 points each. Williams had two 3-point shots. The Lady Bobcats were 6/6 in free throw action.

Coach Rusty Newman commented, “We played terrible in the first half but bounced back after half time and got back in the game. We made to many careless mistakes down the stretch and could not pull it out. I’m proud of the girls for playing hard. We will get back to work to prepare for our next game.”

Wesson 65, Bogue Chitto 39 

The Wesson Cobras dribbled over the Bogue Chitto Bobcats and led the whole game with a final score of 65-39.

Eric Rhymes, Cobra sophomore, led the night with a point total of 17 points, which included one 3-pointer. Senior Dartavious Dixon was also a top player with a point total of 14, which included one 3-pointer. Other top players for the Cobras were Sophomore Tyler Robinson who put 12 points on the board and junior Anthony Jones who scored 10 points. The Cobras were 16/36 in free throws.

The Bobcats’ top scorer was DJ Nunnery with 11 points, which included one 3-pointer. Other top scorers for the Bobcats were Jeremiah Perkins with 8 points and Dakota McGary with 7 points that included one 3-pointer. The Bobcats had an average of 11/19 in free throw action.

Cobra Coach Rusty Newman reflected on the win by stating, “The guys played sluggish for most of the game. We never played with any intensity but we did enough to get the job done. I’m proud of the guys for their efforts.”
