In the women’s game, even with two starters sitting out, the Lady Wolves had little trouble with the Lady Dolphins in a 69-26 victory.

Delgado only dressed six players and Co-Lin wasted no time in jumping all over the undermanned host team, as the Lady Wolves held a 38-6 halftime lead. Co-Lin was without the services of starters Claresa Banks (injury) and Alexis Collins (illness).

Freshman post player Kristal Flowers led Co-Lin with a double double, scoring 10 points and grabbing 10 rebounds in only 16 minutes of action. Sophomore guard Tyra Gibson was the only other Lady Wolf in double figures with 10 points of her own. Freshman point guard Jamilah Sanders, starting in the place of Collins, scored six points, dished out six assists, and made eight steals.

Co-Lin (10-0) has now won 15 consecutive regular season games dating back to last season. Kayla Smothers led Delgado (1-12) with eight points.

In the men’s game,  the Dolphins jumped all over Co-Lin, 13-1 in the first six minutes of the game. The Wolves would fight back to close the gap late, before falling 67-64.

The final score was exactly the same as the final from the first matchup between these teams on Nov. 22 in Wesson. In the first game it was Dolphin guard Bobby Bissant that carried his team. On Saturday it was the deep shooting of Markel Williams that proved to be the difference. Williams finished with a game high 28 points.

Delgado led 26-19 at halftime, but Co-Lin came out of the break and played some of their best basketball of the season. Co-Lin started the half on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to two and force a Delgado timeout. The Dolphins responded with a deep 3-pointer by Williams, who had a Co-Lin defender with two hands in his face, out of the timeout.

The second half would see Co-Lin stay within two possessions nearly the entire time, but never able to close the gap beyond that as the Dolphins finished 4-of-6 from the free throw line over the final minutes to seal the victory.

Co-Lin finished shooting 41 percent from the floor, their best effort in that category since their Nov. 17 win over Southern-Shreveport. The Wolves took a season low seven shot from beyond the 3-point line, finishing 3-for-7. The Wolves had been 14-for-99 from the 3-point line in their previous five games.

Co-Lin (2-8) was led by New Orleans native Donte’ Watson’s 20 points and nine rebounds. Dearius Griffin came off the bench to score a season high 12 points while also grabbing nine rebounds (four offensive). Jordan Lumpkins chipped in 10 points for Co-Lin.

Delgado (5-9) forced the Wolves into 22 turnovers and won despite by being outrebounded 49-30 by Co-Lin.

The Lad Wolves and Wolves will return from the Winter Break on Jan. 6 when they travel to Baton Rouge for games at 5 and 7 p.m.
