22 Co-Lin football players sign letters of intent

WESSON – The fax machine in Frank Pitts Field House was humming last Wednesday as 22 Copiah-Lincoln football players signed letters of intent on the first day of the mid-year transfer signing period. All of the players who signed on Wednesday will enroll at their new schools in the spring and be able to go through spring practice with their new teams.

Defensive lineman Demond Tucker has signed with Iowa State University. The Hazlehurst native was the NJCAA Defensive Player of the Year as a freshman. Tucker joins former Wolf Jordan Harris at Iowa State.

Defensive back Nick Beasley has signed with Middle Tennessee State University. Beasley, a Madison St. Joe alum, will have three seasons of eligibility after redshirting due to injury as a freshman. Beasley joins former Wolf David Adams at Middle Tennessee.

Linebacker Teron Fitzgerald has signed with Texas State University. Fitzgerald made the most of his move to a starter as a sophomore after doing most of his work on special teams as a freshman.

Running back De’Lance Turner has signed with Alcorn State University. Turner, a Perry Central High product, was MACJC first team All-State as a sophomore and led the team with 600 yards rushing in 2014.

Running back Diquan Davis has signed with Delta State University. Davis, a Greenville-Weston alum, was named a NJCAA second team All-American as a kick returner. Davis joins former Wolf Greg Sims at Delta State.

Offensive lineman Nick Luckey has signed with Mississippi College. The Magee High school product was the starting right guard as a sophomore and played in the MACJC All-Star Game. Luckey joins former Wolf De’Vante Nichols at Mississippi College.

Offensive lineman Dezmond Bedford has signed with Tennessee State University. Bedford was a starter at left guard as a sophomore. Bedford, a Coahoma transfer and brother of linebacker DeMorris Bedford, had previously played on the defensive line as a freshman.

Defensive lineman Ryan Ducksworth has signed with Alabama A&M University. Ducksworth, a Taylorsville High graduate, was a MACJC All-Star Game participant and made four sacks as a sophomore.

Defensive lineman Darrell Vanerson has signed with Stephen F. Austin University. Vanerson, a McComb High graduate, made 4.5 sacks as a sophomore.

Wide receiver Donald Gray and defensive lineman Johnathan Calvin have signed with Mississippi State University. Gray, a native of Memphis, was named a NJCAA first team All-American and will have three seasons of eligibility for the Bulldogs. Calvin, a product of Murrah High School, made 5.5 sacks as a sophomore. Gray and Calvin join former Wolves Jocquell Johnson and Darrion Hutcherson at Mississippi State.

Tight end Taylor Marini and offensive lineman Jacob Fleming have signed with the University of Southern Miss. Marini transferred to Co-Lin from Rutgers and will have three seasons of eligibility for the Golden Eagles. Fleming, a North Pike High School graduate, was a two year starter at the tackle position.

Linebacker DeMorris Bedford and wide receiver Courtney Foy have signed with the University of West Alabama. Bedford, a graduate of JFK (Mound Bayou), was a MACJC All-Star Game participant and has played defensive end, tackle, and linebacker while in Wesson. Foy, a native of Midfield, Alabama, was second on the team in 2014 with 45 receptions.

Wide receiver Koy McFarland and offensive lineman Quintarius Willis have signed with the University of Arkansas-Monticello. McFarland, a graduate of Wesson High School, averaged 10.09 yards per reception as a sophomore. Willis, a Greenville-Weston product, started every game at right tackle as a sophomore.

Defensive back Ricky Green and running back Joshua Bates have signed with Missouri Southern State University. Green, a graduate of South Delta High, had six pass breakups as a sophomore. Bates, a Provine High product, was second on the team in rushing yards in 2014 after previously playing defensive back as a freshman.

Linebacker Justin Morgan, offensive lineman Zechariah Ray, and defensive back Josh Russell have signed with Jackson State University. Morgan, a graduate of Senatobia High, was selected MACJC second team All-State as a sophomore. Ray, a Yazoo County High product, was the biggest Wolf on the roster (6-7, 325) in 2014 and will have three seasons of eligibility at Jackson State. Russell will suit up for his hometown Tigers after prepping at nearby Jim Hill High School.

The early signing period lasts until Jan. 15.
