BRAG sees success at ‘Christmas by the Tracks’

Over a dozen artists participated recently in the first annual “Christmas by the Tracks” sponsored by Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild (BRAG).

Held in an empty storefront on Cherokee Street in downtown Brookhaven, the event boasted artists of several genres including those painting in water color, acrylics and oils, working in pottery and in jewelry making.

Several artists demonstrated their talent during the day-long event. Visitors enjoyed talking to the artists, shopping for Christmas gifts and visiting other businesses in the area.

The cast of “Dad’s Christmas Miracle” made two appearances during the day presenting a snippet from the play. Matt Coleman directed the Brookhaven Little Theatre play, and the cast members were very generous with their time supporting BRAG in this first annual Christmas event.

Other events of the day included Friends of the Library, which hosted pictures with Santa at the Lincoln County Public Library, and Lincoln County Historical and Genealogical Society which sponsored the annual Tour of Homes and a special Confederate artifacts display.

Sue Minter, president of BRAG, said she was extremely pleased with the turnout for the first annual “Christmas by the Tracks”.

“We plan to make this an annual event. BRAG also hopes to host several similar events in Brookhaven in the coming months,” she said.

She also commented on how pleased the participating members of BRAG were at the public turnout for “Christmas by the Tracks”.

Anyone interested in creative artwork of any kind during the Christmas Season can go to BRAG’s Facebook page, Brookhaven Regional Arts Guild, and leave a message or comment. Someone will respond to each request as soon as possible.

BRAG was organized in January of 2014 and is still welcoming new members. The next meeting of BRAG is January 15 at Lemanedi Art Gallery. All interested in the arts are welcome to attend. BRAG has two types of membership – exhibiting and non-exhibiting – so one

does not have to be an “artist” to be a member.

BRAG members would like to thank the Samuels family who provided the storefront for “Christmas by the Tracks”.
