Cobras’ kickers sweep Loyd Star

WESSON – The Wesson Cobra kickers secured a sweep against the archrivals the Loyd Star Hornets in the regular season finale at Co-Lin Soccer Field.

In the boys’ contest, Wesson beat the Hornets in a tight scoring game of 2-1. Blayne Brister scored the only goal for the Hornets.

Cameron Smith led the Hornet defense with nine saves. Lane Smith had six. Brett Calcote had five, and Dylan Smith had four. Senior Hayden Brownlee did an amazing job as a goalie with 10 saves.

In the girls game, The Lady Hornets came out strong in the first half scoring 2 goals by Senior, Mallory Holden, which brought her to breaking her own record giving her 19 total goals for the season.

The Lady Hornets went into halftime with a 2-0 lead, but Wesson came back strong and scored three goals in the second half.

Shelby Richardson played hard on defense with 15 clearances and not far behind was Mikayla Warren with 12. Courtney Wyatt had seven, and Starr Thomas with four. Polly Patterson made six goal saves.
