Co-Lin holds Delta to three hits in sweep

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Lady Wolves outhit the Mississippi Delta Lady Trojans 20-3 in a doubleheader sweep in Wesson on Friday. Freshman catcher Jessica Crum had eight combined RBIs in the sweep and increased her total to 14 runs batted in on the week. Co-Lin used five pitchers (Lucy Lewis, Kamry Creel, Rheagan Welch, Payton Sheffield and Lauren Brashier) to keep the Lady Trojans scoreless.

Brashier, a freshman from Heidelberg Academy, went 2-3 at the plate with a double and triple. Lewis picked up the win in the circle after giving up two hits and striking out three in three innings of work.

Co-Lin scored five runs in the second inning and six runs in the third inning. A two-run triple by Brashier and a three-run double by Crum would give Co-Lin a 5-0 lead in the second.

Co-Lin 12, Delta 0 (5 Innings) 

It was more of the same in game two as Co-Lin outhit Delta 11-1. The Lady Wolves got a two-run single by Crum in the first, a RBI single by Greta Carley in the second and a two-run homerun by Crum in the second.

Welch picked up the win by holding Delta hitless and striking out five. Sophomore Julian Johnson also added a two-run homer, her first career home run.

“We had a good day in all areas of the game,” Lady Wolves Head Coach Allen Kent said. “Everyone got to play, our pitchers did a good job, and it was nice to play in front of a home crowd.”

Co-Lin next plays on Feb. 12 when they travel to Delta for a 1 p.m. first pitch.
