Wolves swept by Mississippi Delta

WESSON – The visiting Mississippi Delta Trojans came into Wesson and swept the opening division doubleheader from the Copiah-Lincoln Wolves on Saturday. The Trojans used 14 hits and three Co-Lin errors to power to a 12-3 win in game one. In game two the Wolves again had three errors and saw Delta get 11 hits in a 12-2 win.

As in all divisional doubleheaders this season, game one was nine innings and game two was scheduled for seven innings.
Co-Lin struck first, scoring in the first inning after a Reed Taylor double scored Adrian Brown. Reed finished 3-4. A two-run sixth inning pulled Co-Lin within three. Co-Lin was sparked in the inning by a two-run double by Austin Resser. Jordan Antley, Choc Hubbard and Tanner Parvin all had a hit apiece for Co-Lin. Resser finished 2-4.
Cole Langdon suffered the loss after allowing six runs in six innings, while walking one and striking out seven.
Delta 12, Co-Lin 2 (5 Innings)
The Wolves didn’t get on the board until the bottom of the fifth inning. Freshman Bailey Warren scored Britton Johnson with a single and an Austin Irby groundout plated Justin Oliver later in the inning. The Wolves only managed three hits for the game. Choc Hubbard and Reed Taylor had a hit apiece for Co-Lin.
Jackson Cole took the loss for Co-Lin after allowing six runs in 1.2 innings on five hits.
Co-Lin (7-8, 0-2 Division) hosts Southwest on Wednesday at 4 p.m. for a doubleheader (9/7) at Sullivan Field. The divisional matchup also will serve as the finale of the Coca-Cola Challenge presented by Powerade. The Wolves hold a 1-0 lead in the series and need to win only one game to keep the trophy in Wesson.
