Gibson selected for MACJC All-Star Game

WESSON – Copiah-Lincoln sophomore guard Tyra Gibson has been selected to participate in the 2015 MACJC All-Star Game. The game, hosted by East Central in Decatur, takes place on Friday, April 10. The women’s game tips off at 5 p.m. in Brackeen-Wood Physical Education Building.

Gibson, a graduate of Beau Chene High School and a native of Sunset, Louisiana, was the only member of the Lady Wolves to start in all 28 games during the 2014-2015 season. She averaged 8.6 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 steals, and 2.2 assists for the 2015 MACJC State Champion Lady Wolves (27-1). Gibson, team’s designated 3-point shooter, attempted 147 shots from behind the arc in her sophomore season and shot 30 percent from the 3-point line. In her career she finished with 65 made 3-pointers. Gibson scored a career high 18 points in the season opening 75-69 win over Holmes. As a freshman she was the top substitute off the bench, never starting a game, but seeing action in all 25 contests for Co-Lin.

Sophomore Claresa Banks also was selected for the All-Star Game, but will not participate after suffering a season ending knee injury in the second to last regular season game. Banks averaged a team leading 12.8 points per game in 2014-2015. The Forest Hill alum also averaged 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, 2.6 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game.

Co-Lin head coach Gwyn Young and assistant coach Nikki Williams will serve as coaches for the South Division. The Co-Lin staff last coached in the game in 2009. The North Division won that game 79-77 at Choctaw Central High School.

Members of the South Division women’s squad include Tynika Bender (East Central), Jaleshia Jones (East Central), Sh’Nika Smith (Hinds), Starla Daggans (Jones County), Kadie Parker (Jones County), Miaya Crowder (Meridian), Londyn Thomas (Meridian), Kalynn Smith (Gulf Coast), Essence Pulliam (Pearl River) and Talisa Sherman (Southwest).

Alternates are Shakerya Morrison (East Central), Tashi-Ana Thompson (East Central), and Alyson Johnson (Jones County).

Members of the North Division women’s team are Erica Collins(Coahoma), Bethany Lytle (Northwest), Tekevanna Young (Northwest), Jayla Chills (Itawamba), Kaelin Kneeland (Itawamba), Jeronia Allen (Itawamba), Aushiana Ivy (Northeast), Daisha Williams (Northeast), Carmesha Nalls (Holmes), LaShonda Wilson (Holmes), Alecha Gibbs (East Mississippi), and Niya Head (Delta).

Alternates include Ashley Johnson (East Mississippi), Jasmine Allen (Northeast), and Lanikki McMillian (Itawamba).

Danetra Forrest of Coahoma will serve as head coach.
