Hornets blank East Marion

The Loyd Star Hornets clobbered the East Marion Eagles 15-0 Friday night to complete the series sweep over East Marion in Region 7-2A baseball action at Smith Field.
“Our boys came ready to play tonight and we took advantage of a lot of base-on-balls opportunities ,” said Loyd Star coach Jared Britt. “We have a tough test ahead of us with Enterprise coming up. We have to continue to improve and prepare for a tough week ahead of us.”
The Hornets (7-4, 4-0) returns to action Tuesday for another big division series test against their Lincoln County arch region rivals, the Enterprise Jackets. Junior varsity is set to start at 4:30 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:30 p.m. at Smith Field.

The Hornets came out and quickly took of business Friday night as they drilled the Eagles in three innings of work.
Loyd Star’s dominated the first inning as they scored seven runs to take a commanding lead. The Hornets would continued to hammered the bottom of the second inning as they scored three more runs for a 10-0 lead. In the bottom of the third inning, Loyd Star scored five more runs to win the game on a 15-run mercy rule.
Levi Redd (2-0) was the winning pitcher for the Hornets with five strikeouts and two walks.
Jaylin Akin suffered the loss on the mound for East Marion with no strikeouts and seven walks. Rickey Johnson (1K, 5BB) also pitched for East Marion in relief.
Cole Smith powered the Hornets’ offensive attack with a double and had three RBI’s. Hitting safely were Dorian Beard, Levi Redd, Bradyn Brister, Konner Allen and Hayden Brownlee.
Jarveon Howard recorded the only hit on offense for East Marion with a single.
In junior varsity action, Loyd star defeated East Marion 10-2.
Dylan Smith tossed the win for the Hornets with three strikeouts and no walks. Lane Rogers (1K, 0BB) also pitched in relief.
Lane Rogers paced the Hornets at the plate with two singles. Jordan Michel and Tucker Watts provided a double each. Dylan Smith, Cullen Keene, T.K. Patterson and Blake Ramsey hit safely.
