BA rallies past Simpson

Trailing 4 – 2 going into the bottom of the fifth inning, the Brookhaven Academy Cougars were able to string together some key hits and rally for four runs to take the lead and hold on for a 6-4 victory over the visiting Cougars from Simpson Academy.
Senior right-hander Heath Hickman battled Simpson tooth and nail going the distance and picking up the pitching win. Hickman allowed just five Simpson Academy hits and struck out two in his evening of work.
“Heath showed a lot of grit tonight,” BA Head Coach Casey Edwards said. “He worked out of some tough situations and made good pitches when he had to have them.”
Hickman led the Cougars at the plate with a double and a single and two RBI’s. Carter Culberson added a double and a RBI. Zach Dickerson, JP Jackson, John Coleman and Bryce White each singled adding to the BA seven-hit total. Nick Dukes paced Simpson with a three-run homerun in the third inning.
BA travels to Amite School Center for a district match-up Tuesday afternoon before returning home on Friday to complete the two games series with the Liberty (MS) based Rebels.
BA JV falls to Simpson
In Junior Varsity action, the BA JV Cougars came up one run short dropping a nail-bitter to the Simpson Academy Cougars 3-2.
Jaden Clark had two singles to lead BA. Fisher Warren, Carter Culbertson and Dylan Burt also singled for the home-standing Cougars. Scott Johnson paced Simpson with a double and a RBI.
Taylor Freeny went the distance for the Cougars scattering three SA hits, striking out eight and allowing just one base on balls.
