Co-Lin and Coahoma split in Wesson

WESSON – The Copiah-Lincoln Wolves and the Coahoma Tigers split a doubleheader on Saturday in Wesson. In game one the Tigers scored the winning run in the top of the ninth inning to take a 5-4 win. In game two the Co-Lin bats woke up in a major way as the Wolves took a 17-7 victory in six innings.

Coahoma 5, Co-Lin 4

Jeremy Moore led Co-Lin at the plate with three RBIs on two hits. Moore singled in the third inning and homered in the fifth inning. Cole Langdon was the hard luck loser for Co-Lin on the mound. He pitched 8.2 innings and allowed two earned runs on seven hits.

The bottom of the third saw take a 1-0 lead. Jordan Antley began the inning with a single. A stolen base then moved Antley from first to second. Moore then singled, scoring Antley.

Co-Lin tied the game in the seventh at 4-4 on a passed ball that scored Wesley Watts.

With a runner on third in the ninth, Coahoma (4-28, 3-15 Division) used a squeeze bunt to score the go-ahead run. Co-Lin committed five errors in the game.

Co-Lin 17, Coahoma 7 

The Wolves scored three runs in the first inning, three in the second, one in the third, three in the fifth, and seven runs in the sixth inning. Freshman Austin Irby was the hot man at the plate for Co-Lin as he finished 3-5 with a triple and four RBIs. Reed Taylor and Wesley Watts each hit a double apiece for Co-Lin. Taylor finished with two hits as did Adrian Brown, Jeremy Moore, Choc Hubbard, and Austin Resser. Brown hit a home run and finished with four RBIs. Moore also chipped in three RBIs. Irby and Resser combined to score seven runs. Tanner Parvin also singled and had one RBI.

Freshman Jackson Cole picked up the win in relief. Cole went three innings and gave up one earned run on two hits. Co-Lin put up 15 hits, but made four errors. Coahoma made six errors in the game.

Co-Lin (12-20, 5-13 Division) is scheduled to host Pearl River on Tuesday in Wesson. First pitch is set for 4 p.m. The game will be webcast on colinathletics.com and can be heard on WMJU 104.3 FM in Brookhaven.
