Lady Hornets continue hot winning streak

The Loyd Star Lady Hornets are riding an extremely hot 16-game winning streak after picking up three wins in this weekend.

Loyd Star crushed the McComb Tigers 15-0 Friday night and picked up two shutout wins over Franklin County 9-0 and Natchez Cathedral 6-0 in Saturday’s contest.

The Lady Hornets (18-2, 8-0) will be in action Tuesday as they travel to Natchez to take on the Natchez Cathedral Lady Wave again. Junior varsity action begins at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Loyd Star 15, McComb 0 

Kelsie McCullough was the winning pitcher in Friday contest for Loyd Star with one strikeout and no walks.

Bethany Davis took the lost for McComb with no strikeouts and seven walks.

Madison Jones powered the Lady Hornets offensive attack with a triple and a single. Johnna Norman provided a double and a single. Hitting safely were Julie Smith, Abagail Thornton, Marley Poole and Megan Norton.

Loyd Star 9, Franklin Co. 0 

McCullough was winning hurdler for Loyd Star with two strikeouts and no walks.

Emily Smith suffered the setback for the Lady Bulldogs in the pitching circle with one strikeout and four walks.

Julie Smith led the Lady Hornets offense with three singles. Raigan Smith provided a double and a single. Ali Gartman had a double. Hitting safely were Madison Jones, Abagail Thornton, Mackenzie Smith and Brooks Rushing.

Shelly Case paced the Franklin County’s offense with two singles. Jamecia Starks ripped a double. Shelby Smith and Sierra Bethley had single each.

Loyd Star 6, Cathedral 0

Mackenzie Smith pitched the win for Loyd Star with two strikeouts and one walk.

Marty Lewis suffered the loss for Cathedral with two strikeouts and no walks.

Gartman powered the Lady Hornets at the plate with a home run and a single. Jones contributed double and single. Raigan Smith, Julie Smith, Norton and Thornton provided a single each.

Abby Brown led the Cathedral offense with two singles. Caroline Kaiser, Grayson Bryant, Mary Lewis and Baylee Graning hit safely.
