Lady Cobras clobber West Marion

WESSON- The Wesson Lady Cobras defeated the West Marion Lady Trojans 11-1 Friday night in a last minute make game in Region 7-3A softball action.

The Lady Cobras will be in action Monday as they travel to Tylertown to take on the Tylertown Lady Chiefs in another Region 7-3A make up contest. The junior varsity game is set to start at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

The Lady Cobras came out and quickly took care of business against the Lady Trojans Friday night to earn a 11-1 win.

Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery, reflected on the win stating, “I am proud of the girls hitting so well against the Lady Trojans. We are 4-0 in the district and we will be ready to face Tylertown Monday.”

Lady Cobras’ starting pitcher, Amber Brinson, had two strikeouts. Carrie McSweyn was the closing pitcher and had one strikeout and one walk.

McSweyn and Cheyenne Gladden were the top hitters for Wesson with a double and single each. Harmoni Ashley and Sabria Green also hit two singles each.

Lady Trojans’ pitcher, Lori Robertson, pitched two strikeouts and three walks.

Holly Miller had a single collecting the only hit for the Lady Trojans. Kaitlan Ham was the top fielder with seven outs at first base.

In junior varsity action,  The Lady Cobras beat the Lady Trojans 8-1 Friday night.

Pitcher Carrie McSweyn threw four strikeouts and only walked two batters. Mackenzie Dooley closed out the game with one strikeout and one walk.

Top hitter for Wesson was Madison Boleware who belted a in-field homerun. Anna Clair Crow also hit a single and fielded two outs at first base.
