Silliman defeats Brookhaven Academy

The top ranked Silliman Wildcats carry the reputation as one of the best baseball teams in the area, and they certainly lived up to expectations as they overpowered the Brookhaven Academy Cougars on the way to a 16-0 victory on BA’s senior night.
Darian Tunstall homered in the first and third innings on his way to a four-for-four, six RBI night at the plate for the Wildcats. Zach Kelly added three hits, and Josh Coarsey cleared the left field wall with a fifth inning homerun to bookend their 15-hit attack.
JP Jackson and Zach Dickerson each singled tallying the lone hits for BA. Heath Hickman took the pitching loss for the Cougars striking out four in three innings of work. Mason McNight picked up the win for Silliman.
“First of all, hats off to Silliman,” BA Head Coach Casey Edwards said. “If they play like this in the playoffs, they will be a tough team to beat.
“I want to recognize and say thanks to our six seniors for their commitment and leadership throughout their years not only on the baseball field but on our campus here at BA and in the community,” Edwards continued. “I have no doubt these young men will all be successful in whatever direction life takes them.”
The Brookhaven Academy Cougar Baseball senior class includes: JP Jackson, Connor Dorman, Zach Dickerson, Heath Hickman, John Coleman and Alex Smith.
BA JV tops Silliman
The Brookhaven Academy JV Cougars plated three runs in the third inning and held off a late threat by Silliman in the fifth on their way to a 3-2 victory.
Fisher Warren led the Cougars at the plate with a double, a single and two RBIs. Madison Smith, Taylor Freeny, Chase Freeman and Dawson Zumbro each singled adding to the BA hit total.
Warren pitched the victory for the Cougars striking out five in four and 1/3 innings of work. Madison Smith picked up the save in relief striking out two.
