Brookhaven lifters set personal best in State competition

Stephen Springfield totaled 1,590 lbs to win the 242-pound class in the Class 5A division. His total was the third highest among all lifters in all classifications throughout the entire state of Mississippi.

Springfield’s personal bests in all lifts were 650 in squat, 320 bench, 620 dead-lift. Springfield was 15 pounds away from breaking the all time total in the 242-pound class.

Jay Trunner finished third in the 198-pound class. All lifts were personal bests along with his total of 1,305 points. Trunner squatted 475, benched 245, and dead lifted 585.

Jared Dillon finished fourth in the 275-pound class. He missed a third place finish by 5 pounds. Dillon totaled a personal best of 1,440 points. He squatted 520 and had personal bests on bench and dead lift. He benched 330 and pulled 590 on dead lift.

“I’m very proud of the guys and how they have bought into the power lifting program,” said Ole Brook Power Panthers coach Russ Britt. “They left nothing on the floor today. As a team we finished tied for seventh in Class 5A.”

The Ole Brook Power Panthers grew stronger as whole during each meet.

“I’d also like to thank Todd Peavey for allowing the guys to use his fine facilities at KDMC, and all the guys for all their hard work, Coach Bland for all he does, and the Iron Club, parents, administration, Coach Clopton, and Dr. Cox for all the things they have done for us this season.”
