Clarkdale edges Loyd Star in South State
The Loyd Star Hornets netters suffered another heart breaking defeat in the Class 2A South State finals Tuesday as they fell to the Clarkdale Bulldogs 4-3 for the second year in-a-row in tennis action at the Brookhaven City Courts.
The Hornets and Bulldogs battled to a 3-all tie in the first six matches and all eyes were on the No. 2 boys’ doubles contest to see who would advance to the team state championship in Jackson on May 11.
The Hornet netters will still have several members competing for individual gold in the State Individual tournament on May 11 through May 13.
Participating in the tournament for Loyd Star will be Connor Crosby in boys’ singles, Ashlyn Locke in girls’ singles, Bryson Brister and Madisyn Brister in mixed doubles, Blayne Brister and Cole Moak in boys’ doubles and Caylee Grace Yarborough and Faith Bergeron in girls’ doubles.
