Brookhaven Academy netters search for gold

DAILY LEADER / MARTY ALBRIGHT / Brookhaven Academy’s tennis coach David Misner (left) and his No.2 girls doubles team of Macy Lea and Missy Clanton (right) will be looking to bring home gold Wednesday in MAIS State AA tennis action at Bridges Tennis Center.

JACKSON – Three teams from Brookhaven Academy will be searching for gold Wednesday as they compete in the MAIS AA State Individual Tennis Tournament at the Bridges Tennis Center.

The Cougar netters are also in the hunt for their unprecedented 11th overall team MAIS State AA Championship crown Wednesday.

In girls No. 1 doubles, Marlee Watts and Whitney Moak will begin action at 9 a.m. against Canton Academy’s S. Pace and B. Pace. Watts, teamed up with Moak, is looking to bring home her third straight state championship crown in girls’ doubles.

In girls No. 2 doubles action, Brookhaven Academy’s Macey Lea and Missy Clanton will automatically advance to the championship match after receiving a forfeit from Kirk Academy’s Taylor and Gober. BA’s Clanton and Lea will compete against the winner of Lee Academy and Hartfield Academy for the girls’ No. 2 doubles crown after lunch.

In mixed doubles, Trent Nettles and Susanna Ratcliff will be in action at 9:30 a.m. against Manchester Academy’s Adams and Royal.
