“I am very excited to get the opportunity to play among the best in the all-star game,” said Smith. “It is a big honor for me and I will do my best to compete.”

The two all-stars, along with their head baseball coach Casey Edwards, will report Friday morning for orientation at 10 a.m. and the All-Star banquet will begin at 11 a.m. at the Clyde Muse Center on Hinds Community College campus.

Zach Dickerson  (5-9, 165) directed BA’s pitching staff this season. He fashioned a 2-2 record and a 2.35 ERA. In 42 innings, he struck out 44 batters and issued just 19 bases on balls. Opponents had a .157 batting average against the right-hander.

Dickerson has signed a baseball scholarship to play for the Copiah-Lincoln Community College Wolves. He plans to pursue a career in physical therapy/athletic trainer.

Dickerson shared his thoughts on his season and his coach at Brookhaven Academy. “We had a rough season overall as a team, but I played the best that I could while battling with an ankle injury,” said Dickerson.

“Coach Edwards is a great coach and he has helped me a lot over the years,” added Dickerson. “I am very thankful to have Coach Edwards as my coach.”

Alex Smith  (6-2, 170) was the offensive leader at the plate for the BA Cougars with an batting average of .327. He has signed a baseball scholarship with the Southwest Community Junior College Bears.

At the plate, Smith drove in 24 runs on 17 hits, while collecting 14 singles, 4 doubles and a triple.

Smith was one the top leaders on defense for Brookhaven Academy. He was a nightmare for opposing teams as he posted a .941 fielding average.

Smith shared his thoughts on BA’s season and his coach. “We had a tough season in general, but I was very proud of what I have accomplished this season. It helped me get ready for college.”

“Coach Casey Edwards is a great coach,” continued Smith. “He has taught me and worked with me a lot over the last six years. I appreciate everything that Coach Edwards has done for me and I will miss him dearly.”

“Zachary Dickerson and Alex Smith are both very deserving and I am very proud of them,” said BA coach Casey Edwards. “Both of them were great players for us and were great leaders. They will represent our school and our district well in the All-Star game.”
