Southwest’s Morris Aitken receives Player of Week honors

0911 SW Aitken MorrisSUMMIT – For last week’s record-setting performance against Co-Lin, Southwest freshman forward Morris Aitken has received yet another honor. On Thursday, he was named the NJCAA’s Division 1 men’s soccer Offensive Player of the Week, the first Southwest soccer player to ever receive such accolades. On Tuesday, he received the same award from the MACJC.

Against Co-Lin, Aitken (a graduate of Oak Grove High School) became the first Southwest soccer player (male or female) to ever score four goals in a game in the Bears’ 6-1 win. He also set a Southwest men’s soccer record with eight points.

Asked about the national honor, Aitken said, “It means a lot (and) I’m really excited about it. I will try to keep it up and try to score more goals and do the best (that I can) for my team. I feel very, very happy about it.”

Southwest head coach Drew Gallant said “I’m very excited that Morris was able to get the award. It’s the first time in school history we’ve had somebody receive it. It just goes to show how good of a player Morris is.”
