WESSON – The Wesson Lady Cobras defeated the Florence Lady Eagles 9-4 Monday in slowpitch softball action.

“The girls are finally starting to hit the ball like they can,” said Wesson coach Michelle Nunnery. “We played decent defense and hit the ball well but now we need to get ready for our first district game against Franklin County.”

Wesson will travel to Meadville Thursday night to face the Franklin County Lady Bulldogs. Junior varsity action starts at 5 p.m., followed by the varsity game at 6:15 p.m.

Wesson 9, Florence 4 

Top hitters for the Lady Cobras were Nikki Guess with two doubles and a single. Brooke Jones contributed two singles and a double, and Catherine Wilson with two doubles.

Top defensive players for Wesson were Harmoni Ashley and Arie Douglas with six outs each on first base and second base.

The Lady Eagles put up a good effort at bat but left runners stranded. Florence’s Brennan Newell had two singles and a homerun that brought in two runs in the top of the seventh.

Mattie Granberry was the top defensive player for the Lady Eagles with five outs and two assists on second base.

In junior varsity action,  the Lady Cobras beat the Lady Eagles 12-2.

Abby Boleware led the Lady Cobras at the plate with two singles. Madison Boleware hit a double and the rest of the Lady Cobras hit a single each.

Pitcher Shaylin Green threw two strikeouts and walked two batters. Wesson’s Bre Westbrook was the top defender with three outs at first base.
