This week, the Bulldogs are preparing for a tough Region 7-3A showdown as they welcome the undefeated Hazlehurst Indians to Meadville.

The Indians (6-0, 1-0), coached by Todd McDaniel, blanked the Wesson Cobras 30-0 last week in their divisional opener.

Offensively for the Indians, Damariun Wilson was the top rusher with 20 carries for 91 yards and two touchdowns. Malik Gray had six rushes for 97 yards and one touchdown, and Anfernee Jordon provided four carries for 62 yards.

FC’s top offensive player last week against Wilkinson County was Cortney Smith with 212 yards rushing on 32 carries.

De’Martre Collins finished with 100 yards rushing on 10 carries and had five touchdowns. Antonio Christmas caught two passes for 72 yards. Jacob McDaniels completed 2-of-4 passes for 72 yards.

Defensively, Cameron Young led the Bulldog defense with eight tackles and two sacks. Ryan Johnson also contributed eight tackles. Keonte Bee, Jonquavis Sanders and Chris O’Quinn provided five tackles each. O’Quinn also intercepted a pass.

Last year, Franklin County slipped past Hazlehurst 42-34 in Copiah County.

My prediction: This should be classic showdown as Hazlehurst escapes with a 49-42 win.
