The Prentiss Bulldogs used their size and depth to overpower the West Lincoln Bears to claim a 56-14 Region 7-2A win in Thursday night action at Perry Miller Field. Prentiss led 44-8 at halftime.

In the opening quarter, the Bulldogs took control of the contest, scoring on their first possession. Prentiss ran for 55 yards in six plays to score on a 13-yard touchdown run by Frederick McCollum. A two-point conversion run by Isaiah Gatlin with 9:43 left gave Prentiss an early 8-0 lead.

After a West Lincoln fumble, the Bulldogs quickly took advantage of the turnover and scored on a quarterback sneak by Jalen Madison. Prentiss punched in the two-point conversion on a pass by Madison to Ronald Baker to increase the lead to 16-0 with 8:52 left in the first quarter.

The Bulldogs’ offense continue to roll as it took only 11 plays before Madison punched in a 1-yard touchdown as the first quarter ended with Prentiss leading 22-0.

In the second quarter, Prentiss continued to pound the ball putting up another 22 points before the half. With 10:59 left, Gatlin ran in a 2-yard touchdown. Maddox connected with Baker for a 40-yard touchdown strike with 9:43 remaining. The two-point conversion run by Terry Bryant was good stretching the lead to 36-0.

With 4:41 left in the second quarter Anthony Walker Jr. sprinted in a 12-yard rushing touchdown. The two point conversion run by McCollum was good as the score climbed to 44-0.

Trailing 44-0, the Bears were able to score their first points with 39 seconds left in the half. Nathaniel Addison completed a pass to Chase Owen for a three-yard touchdown. West Lincoln was successful on the two-point conversion with a pass from Addison to Austin Griffin. Prentiss led 44-8 at halftime.

In the second half, the Bulldogs blocked a West Lincoln punt and McCollum recovered the ball and ran it in for a touchdown to push the lead to 50-8.

On the Bears next possession, Prentiss’s Tristan Walker intercepted a pass from quarterback Nathaniel Addison to get the ball back. Prentiss scored their final points of the contest on a Baker touchdown as the third period ended with the Bulldogs leading 56-8.

In the fourth quarter, Addison connected with Chase Owen on a 76-yard pass. On the next play, Addison hit Lofton Sills for a four-yard touchdown.

Offensively, the Bulldogs had 410 total all-purpose yards with 27 carries for 280 yards. Leading the charge was Madison, who carried the ball nine times for 74 yards and two touchdowns. Bryant carried the ball three times for 46 yards. Walker carried twice for 45 yards and a touchdown. Gatlin carried six times for 42 yards and a touchdown. Prentiss completed seven passes for 130 yards. Tim McNair Jr. was the top receiver with three catches for 52 yards. Baker had two receptions for 44 yards and a touchdown.

Kevin Hall led the Bulldog defense with eight tackles with two tackles for a loss. Kelby Poole intercepted a pass.

West Lincoln finished with 155 total all-purpose yards with 23 carries for nine yards. Junior quarterback Nathaniel Addison completed 12 of 24 passes for 146 yards. Chase Owen was the top receiver with five catches for 121 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, Matthew Messer led the Bears with 10 tackles. Lofton Sills contributed eight tackles and had a forced and recovered fumble. Liam Rutland had eight tackles. Brandon Smith collected seven tackles.

The Bears (2-6) will resume action next Friday as they travel across Lincoln County to take on the Enterprise Yellow Jackets at Harry Cole Field. Kick off is at 7 p.m.
