Ethel eliminates BC Lady Cats

ETHEL – The Ethel Lady Tigers eliminated the Bogue Chitto Lady Cats in the second round of the Class 1A State softball playoffs Saturday.

In Game One, the Lady Cats thumped the Lady Tigers 15-8, before Ethel rallied back to win Game Two 6-4 and Game Three 13-12 in an eight-inning contest.

“We had a great season,” said BC coach Scott Leggett. “It didn’t end the way we planned, but I am very proud of my team’s effort. We did a great job fighting back, but came up a little short at the end. Ethel played a great series against us.”

The Lady Cats finished their season with a 25-7 record overall and 2-0 in Region 8-1A softball action to win the division crown.

BC 15, Ethel 8 

Bogue Chitto claimed a 7-0 lead early before the Lady Tigers fought back in the bottom of the second through fourth innings to tie the game at 7-7.

In the fifth through seventh innings, the Lady Cats outscored the Lady Tigers 8-1 to win.

Brooke Myers pitched the win for BC with two strikeouts and two walks.

Erin Watkins suffered the loss for Ethel with one strikeout and six walks.

Terrah Nelson powered BC with a double and two singles. Zariah Matthews contributed two doubles. Codi Leggett and Bayleigh Jackson provided three singles each. Alana Nettles, Reagan Kirkland and Brooke Myer hit a pair of singles each. Christian Black had a double and Karley Leake hit a single.

Clarissa Smith led the Lady Tigers at the plate with two doubles. Avery Bouchillon provided three singles. Sidney Rone, Jessica Mitchell and Haley Woods contributed three singles each. Brooklyn Pitt had a double. Hitting safely were Brooklyn Whitman and Erin Watkins.

Ethel 6, BC 4 

In Game Two, the Lady Tigers jumped on the Lady Cats to secure a 6-2 lead in four innings of action and held BC to only two runs in the sixth inning to secure the win.

Watkins tossed the win for Ethel with one strikeout and six walks.

Myers suffered the setback for BC with one strikeout and three walks.

Black directed the Lady Cats at the plate with a home run. Nelson ripped two singles. Nettles and Kirkland hit safely.

Whitman directed the Lady Tigers’ offense with three singles. Brianna Blaine, Bouchillon and Watkins contributed two singles apiece. Hitting safely were Madison Odom, Smith, Rone and Woods.

Ethel 13, BC 12 

In Game Three, Ethel quickly grabbed a 7-0 lead in three innings of action, before the Lady Cats roared back to tie the contest at 9-9 in the fifth.

In the bottom of the sixth, BC scored three runs to claim a 12-9 lead. Ethel battled back to tie the game at 12-12 after plating three runs to force extra innings.

In the top of the eighth inning, the Lady Tigers scored one run to take the lead at 13-12. In the bottom of the eighth, BC loaded the bases with no outs, but Ethel’s defense managed to keep the Lady Cats from scoring by getting a force at home plate for the first out. Ethel recorded a double play on BC’s next hit when the pitcher caught the second out and picked off the runner at third base for the final out to clinch the win.

Watkins pitched the win for Ethel with two strikeouts and four walks.

Myers absorbed the setback for BC with one strikeout and two walks.

Black was the top hitter for the Lady Cats with a double and two singles. Kirkland contributed three singles. Nettles and Nelson provided two singles each. Cherie Savoie had a double. Matthews, Myers, Leake and Leggett hit safely.

Mitchell and Pitt paced the Lady Tigers’ offense with a double and two singles each. Odom, Watkins, Bouchillon and Rone provided two singles apiece. Whitman hit a single.
