Smith, Gartman sign with East Central

Loyd Star’s first baseman Ali Gartman and outfielder Julie Smith have both signed a softball scholarship with the East Central Community College Lady Warriors.
Smith and Gartman signed their official scholarship papers Monday morning in the Loyd Star Library. Joining Smith and Gartman were family members, Loyd Star softball coach Jan Delaughter, Loyd Star assistant coach Bo Case and members of the softball team.
Heading into her senior year, Smith has a .382 batting average, with 90 hits and 10 doubles. She has a .454 on-base percentage with 47 stolen bases. On defense Smith has a .853 fielding percentage.
Gartman is currently batting a .389. She has 84 RBIs with 101 hits, 23 doubles and 20 homeruns. Her slugging percentage at the plate is .702 and her fielding percentage is .969.
“Ali and Julie are very dedicated and hard working individuals,” said Delaughter. “Both bring great assets to the team. Julie is a good defensive players with speed. Ali brings power to the plate and has a good glove on defense. East Central is getting two good players that will work hard. Overall, I am proud of their accomplishments and we wish both of them the best of luck at the next level.”
