Co-Lin netters win second straight defeating Jones

WESSON – On a perfect day for tennis, the Co-Lin men’s tennis team defeated the Jones County Bobcats 6-3.

The Wolfpack jumped out to a 2-1 lead after wins at No. 2 and No. 3 doubles. Will Pennington and Hayes Thompson took a 8-3 win over Chase Pennington and Luke Armstrong at No. 2. Braxton Hinton and Drake Nelson looked sharp in an 8-1 victory over Taylor Tamberg and Josh Hester at No. 3. Jones County’s Tagel Lewis and Diego Leal beat Mateusz Kimelski and Cory Alderman 8-2 at No. 1.

However, that defeat in doubles propelled both Kimelski and Alderman to impressive wins in singles. At No. 1 singles, Kimelski beat Lewis 6-4, 6-4 while Alderman shined in a 6-2, 6-3 win over Hester at No. 6 singles. Hinton battled for a 7-5, 6-1 win over Pennington at No. 3 singles while Nelson rolled over Armstrong 6-0, 6-1 at No. 5 singles. The two losses in singles were Jones County’s win at No. 2 singles as Leal beat Skylar Moody 6-0, 6-1 and at No. 4 singles when Tamberg squeezed out a third set tiebreaker win over Thompson 7-5, 1-6, 11-9.
